VietNamNet Bridge - A number of important building projects have kept working during the holidays as the annual traditional cultural events took place.

Over 1,000 engineers and workers who are building the Dung Quat Oil Refinery Factory took no holidays on South Vietnam Liberation Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1), according to Tran Van Ngoc, vice chairman of the refinery’s project management team.

The rate of progress has been impressive due to the great efforts made by nearly 500 workers and engineers and substantial support from contractor Technip.

Also, Binh Duong’s department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a traditional boat race on the Saigon river on April 30 with 7 teams taking part which was watched by thousands of spectators.

Later the same day the department also held a prize-giving ceremony for the 2007 Binh Duong photo contest. The competition received 919 entries by 87 photographers from local and neighbouring provinces.

In particular, the contest reflected the blend of industrialization and modernization with time-honoured traditional cultural values. The organizing board chose 16 photos for awards and 110 to be shown at an exhibition, which will last from April 30 to May 19 in the local information and culture centre.

Another activity in celebration of the historic victory of April 30 was a ground-breaking ceremony for the project to reconstruct the Old North Citadel in central Quang Tri province, the northern bank of Thach Han bridge on April 30, which will need an investment of up to VND950 billion.

The project is the second biggest investment in the province up to present. It is of great importance to the Saigon Investment JSC, whose board of directors are mainly veterans, to contribute to the development of Quang Tri province.

The construction is expected to be completed in 5 years (2008-2013).
