VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay has been put back into the list of candidates for the world’s seven natural wonders poll at www.new7wonders.com after being removed from the list on April 14.
NewOpenWorld, the organizer of the online poll, did the removal because some Vietnamese websites had illegally used new7wonders’ logo, photos and contents from the NewOpenWorld website.
Now that the infringements have been solved, Ha Long Bay has return and is topping the list as it did before.

The reason for the removal is some Vietnamese websites’ illegal use of New7wonders’ logo, photos and contents from the NewOpenWorld website.
On April 7, NewOpenWorld sent a letter to warn the Ha Long Bay Management Board of this situation and ask violating websites to remove the illegal contents, but they did not comply. A second letter, sent on April 14, said that the organization would temporarily remove the bay from the selection until the websites deleted all pirated contents and met NewOpenWorld’s requirements.
To many, though, the “infringements” such as those of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh, EVN Telecom, and Tuoi Tre newspapers contributed greatly in calling millions of people to vote for Ha Long Bay and help the famous rock formation achieve first place on the list. It was simply a love for the heritage of the country and desire to introduce the Vietnamese image to the world.
Because of a shortage of knowledge, these websites unintentionally caused the removal of Ha Long Bay from the poll. Trouble might have been avoided had they understood the regulations which were agreed upon by NewOpenWorld and the Support Committee for Ha Long Bay.
“When we take part in any international playing field, we should learn about the regulations to avoid such troubles,” said Mr. Tran Chien Thang, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
Finally, Ha Long Bay has regained its position on the selection list.
